In the sequel to Unfriended, Matias finds an abandoned laptop and heads home for a night of online gaming, only to discover a mysterious folder on the computer filled with what appear to be snuff films. Shortly after, a message pops up, directed towards the owner of the laptop. But before Matias can return it, he and his friends realize it's much too late —the world of the dark web has begun to pull them into its immeasurable depths.
Mercifully ditching the supernatural elements of the unrelated first film, Unfriended: Dark Web leans hard into the horrors that lie in hidden corners of the internet. This film is far more fleshed out, with realer characters than anyone asked for and some truly shocking filmmaking craft that creates an endlessly stressful, bleak, and horrifying atmosphere. Unfriended: Dark Web swirls together into a mean-spirited descent into hell that you can't shake long after you walk out of the theater. And remember, there's nothing that you saw that can't happen to you the next time you open your laptop…
