A Part of Music Box of Horrors 2024
Writer/Director Ron Oliver in person for post-film Q&A!
Mary Lou, the prom queen burned to death by her boyfriend back in the fifties, has escaped from hell and is once again slinking through the hallways of Hamilton High School looking for blood. She chooses Alex as her escort in the world of the living, a naive, spineless loser with dreams of attending Med School. As Mary Lou begins to get back into form, the body count starts climbing and the graduating class of Hamilton High is yet again smaller than expected.
Just when you thought things couldn't get any hornier than Prom Night II, screenwriter Ron Oliver triumphantly steps into the Director's chair to join forces with Mary Lou and ratchet things up to an unbelievable crescendo of sex, camp, deliciously over the top violence, and an irresistible soundtrack ranging from funk bangers to sax-fueled ballads. PM3 gleefully sends up not just the Prom Night films, but also the withering, over-stuffed cycle of slasher films circling the drain by the end of the 80s. Never content to just be a lighthearted spoof, PM3 maintains a jubilant mean-spiritedness evidenced in its non-stop hysterical barrage of crass one-liners & inventive, cheer-inducing kills, all coalescing into one of the most foolishly underrated horror comedies around.
