J-Horror Night | A Part of Music Box of Horrors: Dawn of the Drive-In Presented by Shudder
Japan has a long and rich history of horror storytelling. But when someone talks about “J-Horror,” they’re often referring to a specific style of movie popular in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s that’s heavy on techno-paranoia, gloomy color palettes, and creepy little girls with long hair and flexible limbs. Director Hideo Nakata was one of the main architects of this style, and we pay tribute to him with a special J-Horror night featuring two of Nakata’s greatest hits: Ringu, the franchise starter that introduced tortured well-dweller Sadako to the world, and Dark Water, a chilly, damp ghost story that’ll make you very paranoid about that leak in your kitchen ceiling.
