After laboring in the trenches of Monogram, director Phil Karlson established his bankable noir credentials with producer Eddie Small with this taut adaptation of Sam Fuller’s novel The Dark Page. Broderick Crawford stars as a bull elephant of an editor who accidentally kills his estranged wife and has to manage the subsequent investigation of her death by his muckraking reporter (John Derek) while attempting to cover his tracks. Also starring Donna Reed, Rosemary DeCamp, Henry O’Neill, and Harry Morgan.
