Introduced in 1923, 16mm is a film format favored by experimental and independent filmmakers for its rich aesthetic quality and affordability. Historically, 16mm was also used in schools, churches, prisons, and other “non-theatrical” spaces to show everything from Hollywood features to educational films about milking cows. We’re proud to have one of the finest 16mm projectors ever made, an Eastman 25, which is capable of projecting beautiful, sharp images that can often rival 35mm for quality. Some of our favorite 16mm screenings have been Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore, Halloween 3 (screened in a special 16mm scope print when no 35mm print or DCP was available), and countless short subjects and cartoons.
