Presented by Music Box of Horrors
Author Jimmy McDonough in person
There’s no horror like Christian horror! The twin demons of Satan and Fidel Castro loom over pews full of stiff-haired holy rollers in these infamous early ‘70s Southern Baptist scare films. Long available only on fuzzy gray-market bootlegs, If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do? (1971) comes into the light with a new 2k restoration presented by Nicolas Winding Refn/byNWR! A delirious sermon about the dangers of Communism with the bloodthirsty soul of a grindhouse picture, this might be the single most jaw-dropping kitsch artifact of the 20th century.
A fire-and-brimstone dramatization of what awaits unrepentant sinners on the other side, The Burning Hell (1974) also comes to the Music Box in 2k. Gaze into the fiery depths of the fundamentalist imagination — a place so dark and twisted, even the most dedicated horror nut will have to tip their black baseball cap to Ron Ormond and the Rev. Estus W. Pirkle.
'King of the Crazy Biographers' Jimmy McDonough (author of definitive works on Andy Milligan, Al Green, Russ Meyer, Neil Young and Tammy Wynette) will appear in person for essential context on the Ormond family and their Nashville-based exploitation empire. McDonough will also be selling his new biography of the Ormonds, The Exotic Ones, at a discounted price.
Restorations by Cinema Preservation Alliance/Peter Conheim.
