Reality is growing more nightmarish by the day, and Music Box of Horrors is responding to the horror of the Supreme Court overturning Roe V. Wadethe only way we know how: By throwing mutant babies with vampire teeth at you through the movie screen! This September, Music Box of Horrors is teaming up with Midwest Access Coalition for a fundraiser screening of Larry Cohen’s killer-baby classic It’s Alive! (1974), with a portion of proceeds going to MAC’s mission of providing practical assistance to abortion-seekers across the Midwest. 

A centerpiece in writer-director Larry Cohen’s filmography of sharp, cynical B-movies, It’s Alive! combines the silly fun of a classic ‘50s-style creature feature with the environmental fears and bleak outlook of the 1970s. John P. Ryan and Sharon Farrell star as a married couple whose second child kills its way out of the delivery room, leaving a trail of dead bodies as it rampages across Southern California. This surprisingly thoughtful examination of parental anxieties and family relationships takes a darkly comic look at the question: What would you do if you gave birth to an abomination?
