Nothing much ever happened at the St. Francis Boarding School for Girls. Until one fateful night in 1959 when young Christine calmly walked into the school’s basilica, leveled her sawed-off shotgun and blasted the unsuspecting nuns. Burning down the building afterward. Flash forward to 40 years later and a group of local college kids break into the abandoned school to raise hell. Unfortunately for them, Hell is exactly what they raise when they encounter a group of inept Satanists intent on summoning Satan.

The Convent, taking its initial inspiration from Night of the Demons, bursts out of the gate with a gleefully blasphemous opening scene perfectly setting the tone for the Satanic goopfest to follow. With practical effects oozing out of, and all over every frame, an effortlessly hysterical and horrifying script from Chaton Anderson executed with just the right amount of sleaze by director Mike Mendez, and featuring deliciously ludicrous performances from Bill Moseley, Coolio, & Adrienne Barbeau - The Convent is the perfect early aughts banger to soothe the jaded horror sicko's soul.
