It’s 1962 and the Cuban Missile Crisis threatens to annihilate all life on this planet—but more ominously for the kids on the block, all this grown-up riffraff might pre-empt the Key West premiere of MANT!, the latest film from exploitation maven Lawrence Woolsey (John Goodman).  A loving homage to William Castle and the ranks of forgotten dumpster auteurs whose low-budget sci-fi and monster mash pictures fired the imagination of countless adolescents, MATINEE reminds us that even when films are mass market entertainment rolled out nationwide, they’re enjoyed in specific theater, and every screening is a special occasion.
