Shot on location in the unforgiving wilderness of Northwest Canada, the sixth collaboration between James Stewart and western auteur Anthony Mann stars Stewart as a cattle driver and obsessive loner with vengeance in his heart and murder in his past. Hoping to cash in on the Klondike gold rush, Stewart drives a herd of cattle through Dawson with comic relief Walter Brennan, and runs into trouble when a corrupt judge seizes their stock.
